Where is Bromley?

Bromley occupies a substantial slice of south-east London, stretching all the way from Crystal Palace, Penge and Beckenham, to Orpington and the sleepy, peaceful villages around the edges of the M25. At its closest point, Central London is just seven miles from Bromley. Meanwhile, on the outer edges of the borough you’re as far removed from the city as it’s possible to feel within the M25.

Living in Bromley

Bromley offers as wide a variety of experiences as you’ll find anywhere in London. It has vibrant, energetic urban communities with their finger on the pulse, alongside stately villages and archetypal commuter towns. At its northernmost point, you’re fully connected to the south-east London urban sprawl.

However, the further south you go, the more the countryside creeps up on you, until you’re standing in the middle of a field, apparently miles from civilisation. This is, of course, part of the borough’s great appeal. If you want to be connected to London but with the countryside nearby, you’re hard-pressed to beat Bromley.

Bromley’s main communities include the thriving Bromley town centre and the ultimate commuter haven of Orpington. There’s excellent shopping in Bromley town, while Orpington has all the everyday amenities you could wish for. In Beckenham, Crystal Palace and Penge, you’ll find a more diverse crowd and a mix of high street shops, independent retailers and a smattering of trendy bars and cafés. Alternatively, exclusive Chislehurst has the feel of a sleepy, secluded village.

The borough’s excellent choice of schools enhances its credentials as a family-friendly location. Bromley has a variety of outstanding-rated state schools and renowned independents. Thanks to its legacy as a part of the ceremonial county of Kent, Bromley is also home to two selective schools. These are the sought-after Newstead Wood School for girls and St. Olave’s Grammar School for boys.
