Living in South Yorkshire
Once an industrial hotspot, South Yorkshire has rebranded itself as a hub for music, sport, culture, and artisan trades. You’ll find plenty of outstanding restaurants and shopping amenities, such as Meadowhall, interspersed with the region’s iconic Gothic architecture and Victorian monuments. Inside the city, the canal towpath blends modern street art with a Victorian industrial backdrop for a dramatic effect. Or opt for less serenity and soak in live music at the renowned Leadmill venue or the Tramlines Festival. Famous for its racecourse, Doncaster also boasts historic indoor and open-air markets, international cuisine, and leisurely pursuits aplenty.
The M1 connects the county to Leeds in the north and down through Nottingham and Leicester to London. Meanwhile, the A1(M) offers fast links to the South East and up towards northern National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The A628 also cuts through the Peak District to ensure a straightforward route to Manchester, around an hour from Barnsley.
