Great location in our dream home

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

The area is up and coming with the huge development that is Calderwood which has led to an improvement of amenities. There are play parks and we are close to Almondell Country Park which is great for dog walks. The people are generally very friendly. There are lots of people with dogs and children here. Unfortunately with lots of dogs comes some irresponsible dog owners who don’t pick up after their dog. There appear to be plenty of visitor spaces so parking doesn’t seem to be an issue. It remains a construction site in some places which causes an increase in lorries, construction vehicles, noise pollution and dirt. The village of east Calder isn’t far away with local shops, pubs, library, GP practice and pharmacy to name a few. With the increase in the number of residents the amenities and utilities are under greater demand however it is hoped in the future these will also increase to meet demand

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

It is important to become familiar with all the features of your new home to make it work well for you. Identifying snags early is important. Miller have been great with any questions and queries we have had

What is the best feature of your home:

We really enjoy the location as it is east to get to Edinburgh and we have the country park on our doorstep as we are dog owners.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

Not many shops yet but hopefully coming. The transport links are excellent. Lots of open spaces and walk through to get to the valley and woodland. Love living here. Good neighbours and community. Adequate parking. Bin collection fine but would like glass recycling facility

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Post codes being a new build were a nightmare. Deliveries were difficult. No one could find me

What is the best feature of your home:

Lovely big open kitchen and the flue of the rooms through the house

The house I purchased has a large field behind it, I would have liked to known that there may be future developments within that area.

What is the best feature of your home:

I like the layout of the ground floor, the feature bay window in living room is an excellent feature.

Calder is a lovely community to live in

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

My partner and I really like living in Calderwood. It’s a friendly area and I always feel safe walking around at any time. There are many events throughout the year particularly Halloween/guy Fawkes/ Christmas which are so nice to be a part of. The access to Almondell is great, we love going walking through the estate and round the woods. We are within walking distance (20mins) to local shops and many take away options. Also have a local cafe which is lovely. The bus service is fantastic, regular buses every 30mins that take you into the centre of Edinburgh in 35mins tops! Bin collections are punctual and we have never had any issues. Living alongside Nethershiel Road the cars speed around the area too much. I wish there were more speed control measures in place. Living in a building site is also difficult at times with lorries flying past the house a lot and builders parking outside the house every day. We also pay a factor fee and don’t see the benefits of this as our communal areas don’t look as well kept as they could. There are plenty of visitor spaces however they are usually filled with resident’s cars, who have driveways.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

Nethershiel Road was going to be a main route in and out of Calderwood. Where certain housing would be situated ie. House association. Which areas would be developed on in the future.

What is the best feature of your home:

We are incredibly lucky to have an end/corner plot therefore the size of our garden and being south facing is great.
