Good inner city housing.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

Walking distance to 2 overground stations and Brixton tube, P5 bus stop right outside. Estate parking is limited and privately run so £50 fines issued. Brockwell Park and Loughborough Park close by. Brixton is busy, noisy and offers high street chains and independent shopping plus the Ritzy cinema, Brixton House Theatre and the Carling Academy. Brixton is home to the Black Cultural Archive on Windrush Square. And yet our flat is quiet and overlooks a communal garden. Good facilities for cyclists; bike hangers and a secure bike store. The estate houses 490 households with a mixture of tenures, and consequently varying levels of commitment to peaceful co-existence. It’s inner city London in a deprived borough, you take it as you find it, if you want the leafy suburbs this isn’t it.

How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:

We haven’t had many issues that needed dealing with. The seal went on the heating unit, Guinness sent someone yesterday and the repair is booked in for 2 days later.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

It can be an alarming neighbourhood if you’re not used to it. The estate looks nice and is pretty safe but there’s a lot going on in the surrounding area. Think carefully if you have kids who will need to walk around here.

Could be better

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

The area is very localised with a theatre, bars and restaurants at the end of the road. Public transport (P5) is the only bus that runs along Loughborough Park and can be problematic to take, however there is a good underground and overhead service. Anti-social behaviour within the block is becoming more rampant as the intercom door keeps being damaged, packages from deliveries have gone missing, rubbish left in the lift and communal areas. No CCTV for the past three years or so. Feeling vulnerable as I had someone trying to gain access to my home. As far as I’m aware the bin collection is fine but to get into the bin room on occasion can be a nightmare as some residents don’t understand what the bins are for so leave their trash on the floor opened and smelling, it becomes a health and safety issue. I do appreciate that letters have been posted to tenants but in my opinion I don’t think it goes far enough.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

The lack of parking, local transport and the anti-social behaviour.

Electric Quarter has a mixture of architecture with fairly nice yellow brick mid rise buildings on the road side.

Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:

Very poorly kept streets in relation to council tax cost. Not a nice walk to and from the tube due to this. Lots going on in the area, everything you need between Herne Hill and Brixton. Quick overground ride into the city from Loughborough Junction.

Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:

An alternative address to use for deliveries while the actual address does not work.
